Prep highlights: Pinckney junior wins large Milford cross country meet

Junior Evan Loughridge is claiming his place as the next great runner in the Pinckney cross country program.

Loughridge won an invitational for the first time in his career, beating a field of 362 runners in the Milford Invitational Thursday at Kensington Metropark.

He covered the tough 3.1-mile Possum Hollow course in 16 minutes, 44.96 seconds. Loughridge finished 6.36 seconds ahead of Clarkston junior Bryce Nowick.

Zach DeBeauclair was eighth in 17:20.12 for Pinckney, a Division 2 team that placed seventh behind six Division 1 schools in the 18-team meet. It was a unique meet in which freshmen started first, junior varsity runners one minute later and varsity runners after another minute.

Saline Early Bird

Hartland’s girls placed fourth out of 12 teams and the boys took sixth out of 15 at Huron Meadows Metropark.

In the boys race, senior Ben Smith was 11th in 16:48.14 and junior Carson Cook was 21st in 17:18.83 for the Eagles.

Senior Lexie Brown led Hartland’s girls, placing 17th in 20:34.59. Freshman Sophia Nunnery was 22nd (20:49.81) and senior Alexandra Cabaj was 24th (20:51.90) for the Eagles.

Dwayne Rau Memorial Invite

Senior Raymond Rogers was fourth in 18:40.40 and junior Anthony Urbaniak was seventh in 19:36.07 in the four-team Veronica Quackenbush division of a meet at West Branch Ogemaw Heights.

Golf

Patriot Cup

Brighton shot 320 to finish second to Rochester Adams by seven strokes at The Fortress in Frankenmuth.

Abbie Pietila of Brighton was fourth out of 96 players with a 77. Anelise Gatti tied for fifth with a 79, Maddy Martens was seventh with an 80 and Amelia Gatti was 12th with an 84.

Brighton 157, Howell 201

Brighton had the top six scores, led by a 37 from junior Abbie Pietila. Amelia Gatti shot 39, while Maddy Martens shot 40, and Lauren Forcier and Anelise Gatti each shot 41s. Howell’s Jillian Smith shot 46.

Soccer

Pinckney 8, Adrian 0

Trent Johnson scored three goals and one assist, Reese Elmy scored two goals, Owen Keene had a goal and three assists, and Chris Newman had a goal and two assists for Pinckney.

Lansing Eastern 3, Fowlerville 2

Fowlerville fell behind 3-0 and nearly came back after getting goals from Caden Gill and Ian Hartke.

Northville 1, Brighton 0

Northville scored midway through the second half. Will Evans made five saves in the first half and Reece Meyer made seven in the second half for Brighton.

Volleyball

Haslett 3, Fowlerville 0

Haslett beat Fowlerville 25-25, 25-16, 25-14.

Meadow Browne had five aces, while Julia Johnson and Morgan Thomas had eight digs each for the Gladiators (1-5).
