Jan. 8—The No. 1-ranked Cascade Christian boys basketball team ripped a 16-0 run to open the game and never looked back in an 84-40 romp against North Valley in Far West League action Saturday night at the Challengers' gym.

Junior center Austin Maurer scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the first half and finished with seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks to lead the way for the Challengers (9-2, 3-0 FWL), who recorded their seventh straight win.

Cascade guard Drew Hall had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while backcourt mate Jaren Fronckowiak added 11 points and five assists and Peyton Maurer had 10 points.

Cascade Christian hit 11 3-pointers. The Challengers led 27-4 after the first quarter and 49-18 at the half.

North Valley (4-8, 1-2) got 18 points from senior Temio Jones.

SOUTH MEDFORD 66, IDA B. WELLS 53: At Portland, South Medford sophomore Boden Howell posted 27 points to lift the Panthers to victory in the PIL Showcase at Franklin High School.

Howell scored 19 second-half points to help South Medford (7-5) erase a 25-23 halftime deficit.

Jackson Weiland scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half and Tobias Akpan added nine points off the bench for the Panthers.

Jacey Canalin scored 22 points and Diggy Griffin added 18 for Ida B. Wells (4-7).

MARSHFIELD 56, PHOENIX 51: At Klamath Falls, Phoenix senior Julius Bolstad scored 13 points and Isaiah Talbott added 12 to help the Pirates recover from a slow start but Marshfield was able to stave off the comeback in the Sky-Em/Skyline Crossover.

Mekhi Johnson scored 20 points to lead Marshfield (8-6), which jumped to a 27-11 lead in the first quarter and responded to Phoenix (7-7) with an 18-10 edge in the fourth quarter.

ST. MARY'S 74, ROGUE RIVER 35: At Rogue River, St. Mary's won its second Far West League matchup in as many nights to bring the Crusaders' overall record to 3-8 and FWL total to 2-0.

Rogue River dropped its seventh straight game to fall to 2-8 and 0-3 in league play.

GRANTS PASS 41, NELSON 37: At Grants Pass, Grants Pass outscored Nelson 13-0 in the second and was able to hold off Nelson's late charge to win its final nonleague tuneup.

Brooke Anderson and Brooklyn Wakefield both scored 10 points to lead Grants Pass (8-2).

Ella Shackleton led Nelson (4-3) with nine points, all of which came from behind the 3-point line.
