Prep Notebook: Woodlief inks with Averett

Oct. 31—OXFORD — Oxford Prep three-sport athlete Kadence Woodlief signed her National Letter of Intent last week to play volleyball at Averett University, where she will play two college sports.

Woodlief had already announced her intentions to play softball at Averett but decided to wait to publicly announce her volleyball decision.

While both Vance and Warren County had advanced to the NCHSAA State Playoffs, local program J.F. Webb has concluded its season on the gridiron.

Season one of the Elijah Sessoms era ended with a 1-8 record after losing starting quarterback Braden Cooper to injury in the first game of the season.

The Warriors earned a 12-0 victory over conference opponent Granville Central, marking their first shutout since a 41-0 victory over Carrboro in October 2021.

For a program that retooled its offense and is taking the time to establish a culture in Oxford, their record is not indicative of the talent and progress at J.F. Webb.

In what turned out to be their season finale in a loss to South Granville, the Warriors recorded a season-high 18 points and reached the endzone for the sixth time in four games.

Missing out on the state playoffs is never easy for a program, but with a talented roster and coaching staff returning to Oxford in 2023, the Warriors have reason to be excited about the future.
