The Holland Christian boys basketball team came away with a 65-58 win over Coopersville on Friday night.
The Maroons were led by Jalen Overway, who had 19 points. Overall, the team had four players hit double figures in the points column. Brad Jansen's team was as up by as many as 17 with two minutes to play, but a rash of turnovers made the game appear closer than it actually was.
Hamilton 63, West Catholic 62
Austin Osborne made a shot at the buzzer to give Hamilton the victory.
Brady Tebo scored 16 points off the bench.
West Catholic 69, Hamilton 40
The Hamilton girls basketball team fell to 2-4 and 0-1 in conference play with the loss Friday night.
Taylor VanderZwaag led the team with 12 points, while Kyra Kleinheksel and Megan Williams each added eight.
"West Catholic is a tough game to open the conference season. Their pressure is so aggressive and they’re so fast; it took us a little too long to find a rhythm. They also have so many threats to score," said Hawkeyes coach Jacquelyn Schwark. "Six of their players scored eight points or more which is just tough to defend. I was very proud of our effort tonight and how we battled the whole game. Hopefully, we can carry that forward into the rest of the conference season."
Holland Christian 55, Coopersville 22
Freshman Camryn VandenBosch led the Maroons with 14 poitns. Tryna VanderZwaag added 10.
