PREP ROUNDUP: Caballero Uhtoff nets 4 goals for Ashland

Sep. 20—ASHLAND — Junior Lena Caballero Uhtoff recorded four goals to keep the Ashland girls soccer team perfect on the season with a 5-1 victory over Hidden Valley on Monday at Ashland High School.

Caballero Uhtoff scored all four of her goals in the second half following a first half where Hidden Valley tied the score 1-all two minutes before halftime.

Senior Iniana Hammond scored the contest's first goal in the fifth minute on a set up from Brianna Gibbs.

Eight minutes into the second half, Caballero Uhtoff gave the Grizzlies (4-0) the lead for good on another assist from Gibbs. Caballero Uhtoff later scored three goals over a three-minute span, one of which was on a pass from Hammond that wrapped up the hat trick.

The defeat dropped Hidden Valley to 2-2 overall.

ST. MARY'S 0, BROOKINGS 0, tie: At Brookings, St. Mary's goalkeepers combined for 26 saves, leading the way in helping the Crusaders salvage a tie in the scoreless nonleague contest.

Starting senior goalkeeper Katelynn Balsiger registered 13 saves, including a penalty kick stop for the Crusaders (1-3-1), and freshman Gabriella Cooper also came away with 13 saves in the second half.

The stalemate took Brookings-Harbor's record to 2-2-1 overall.

NORTH VALLEY 3, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 1: At Merlin, senior Autumn Murray tallied a late goal for Cascade Christian but North Valley scored three times in the first half to take control in its District 4 win.

Murray's goal came in the 79th minute on a free kick assist from fellow senior Bella Williams.

Freshman midfielder Ellie Vanlandingham had a strong all-around performance, setting up scoring opportunities for the Challengers (2-3, 2-2 Dist. 4).

The Knights jumped to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in league play.

Boys Soccer

ASHLAND 2, HIDDEN VALLEY 2, tie: At Merlin, Ashland had a 2-1 lead until host Hidden Valley scored with 15 seconds remaining to tie the score at 2-all and the contest ended in a stalemate.

Theron Patridge put the Grizzlies (2-1-1) on the scoreboard first in the 28th minute off of a corner kick from Cash Cota and Ashland went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

After Hidden Valley (4-0-1) answered in the 58th minute to tie the score 1-all, Cota gave the Grizzles the lead again on a pass from Mario Jacobson.

Grizzlies goalkeeper Mateo Moore made two big second half saves and finished with three saves overall.

LAKEVIEW 3, ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 1: At Lakeview, junior Aaron Wilson gave Rogue Valley Adventist a 1-0 lead at halftime but the Red Tail Hawks surrendered three second-half goals in the Mountain Valley League contest.

The loss to Lakeview (3-2, 3-1 MVL) dropped the Red Tail Hawks' record to 1-2 both overall and in MVL play.

Volleyball

ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST SPLITS: At Lakeview, Emma Bischoff accumulated 22 kills, eight blocks, seven aces and nine digs but Rogue Valley Adventist suffered its first loss of the season to one of the top Class 1A teams in the state in a 22-25, 25-17, 25-17, 17-25, 15-9 decision at Lakeview High School.

Senior setter Destinee Quattrocelli helped orchestrate some of fellow senior outside hitter Bischoff's success at the net with 22 assists to go with 10 digs.

Senior middle blocker Michaela Porter added eight kills and seven digs for the Red Tail Hawks.

Later, RVA got back on track with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-15 victory over host Lakeview.

Bischoff went for 11 kills and nine digs for the Red Tail Hawks (9-1) while Quattrocelli came up with 17 assists, four digs, three kills and three aces.

The Red Tail Hawks also picked up seven kills and eight digs from Porter as well as seven assists and four aces from Naomi Jackson.
