BOYS' SOCCER

Central Christian 2, Smithville 1

Smithville struck first and had its sights set on an upset of one of the area's top teams, but Central Christian did just enough to outlast the Smithies.

Quinn Maibach scored in the ninth minute for Smithville, but it quickly became a tie game via Smithville own goal in the 14th minute. Silas Coleman's 20th minute penalty kick proved to be the game winner as Bryan Martin stayed solid in goal for the Comets with five saves.

Waynedale gave Dalton its best shot, but the Bulldogs were there to answer in one of the closest WCAL matches of the season. Dalton improved to 9-0 in league competition.

All eight scoring golfers were consistent, shooting between 36 and 42. Brendan Lehman led Dalton with a 37, with Jaden Schlabach shooting a 38, Todd Brahler carding a 40 and Zach Brahler a 41.

Trey Barkman shot a 36 for Waynedale on his way to medalist honors. Hank Miller shot 39, Jordan Miller 41 and Brayden Schlabach 42.
