CHEBOYGAN – The performance was solid, but the result ended up being similar to a few days earlier.

Despite playing well for most of Tuesday night’s home matchup against Ogemaw Heights, the Cheboygan girls soccer team settled for a 3-3 tie against the Falcons in a Northern Michigan Soccer League matchup.

“We had all kinds of opportunities,” said Cheboygan coach Tom Markham. “We had 14 shots on goal. We had several opportunities in front of net that what woulda, coulda and shoulda. The kids played hard, but so did Ogemaw. Hats off to them for playing shorthanded and hustling.”

The Chiefs (3-1-2, 3-0-3 NMSL) built a 2-0 lead in the first half after Sammy Harke and Kenzie Burt both scored goals, but the Falcons recovered with two goals later in the half to tie things up going into the break.

Burt scored her second goal of the game midway through the second half to put the Chiefs up 3-2, but Cheboygan failed to defend an Ogemaw corner kick, which allowed the Falcons to snatch an equalizer with just 54 seconds remaining.

Cheboygan players recording assists were Addy Baldwin and Cassidy Jewell.

“We played great for 78-and-a-half minutes, but we’ve got to do it for 80,” Markham said. “The kids are working hard. In many ways, it’s one of the better games we’ve played. “
