Prep Roundup: Chiefs soccer wins third straight

ROSCOMMON — Another dominant performance lifted the Cheboygan girls soccer team to an 8-0 conference road victory at Roscommon Wednesday night.

The Chiefs (7-2, 6-0) took control in the first half with goals from Kenzie Burt, Camille Aper, Cassidy Jewell and Nakea Jewell. Cheboygan led 4-0 at the break.

In the second half, Cassidy Jewell and Aper both scored again, while Lizzie Lopiccolo and Agnes Wärmländer also found the back of the net to seal another Cheboygan win. Picking up assists were Calli Landon, Nakea Jewell, Elizabeth Harke, Burt and Lopiccolo. Cheboygan held a 15-1 shot advantage in the contest.

"Possession and finishing opportunities looked very sharp," said Cheboygan coach Tom Markham. "Roscommon's goalkeeper, Eden Vanecker, was impressive with some key saves on the night."

Cheboygan heads to Tawas for a 5 p.m. matchup on Friday.

Comet softball powers past Harbor Light

MACKINAW CITY — The Mackinaw City softball team improved to 4-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference after capturing a Monday home doubleheader sweep with 15-0 and 20-5 victories over Harbor Light.

Raeann Hingston went 3-for-3 with three triples, two RBI and three runs scored to lead the Comets, who saw Madison Smith go 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. Gabi Bell was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored. Adding a hit apiece were Rian Esper (double, RBI, run), Marlie Postula (double, run) and Julia Sullivan (RBI, two runs). Gracie Beauchamp (RBI, two runs), Jersey Beauchamp (two runs) and Kenzlie Currie (run) also contributed in the win.

Postula was Mackinaw City's winning pitcher, striking out seven and walking one in four innings thrown.

Things kept rolling in game two for the Comets, who saw Bell (triple, two RBI, three runs), Postula (triple, RBI, three runs) and Smith (double, three runs) all finish 2-for-2 offensively. Larissa Huffman (two RBI, three runs) and Gracie Beauchamp (double, RBI, three runs) each tallied a hit. Jersey Beauchamp (RBI, run), Sullivan (RBI, run), Hingston (two runs) and Esper (run) also played their part in the triumph.

Jersey Beauchamp earned the win on the mound, striking out four and walking five in three innings pitched.

Siebigteroth leads Mackinaw City at golf meet

ROGERS CITY — The Mackinaw City golf team finished in fourth place during Monday's meet at Rogers City Country Club.

The top golfer for the Comets (241) was Jeffrey Siebigteroth, who shot a 53.

Gaylord St. Mary (199) finished first, while Rogers City (201) and Fairview (211) were second and third, respectively.
