Prep roundup: Hailey Leslie comes up big for Walker Valley in 5-3 win over Soddy-Daisy

Apr. 21—A determined Hailey Leslie sparked a signature District 5-AAA road victory for Walker Valley on Tuesday.

With a tied ball game in the top of the seventh, Leslie took the first pitch for a strike while leading off against Soddy-Daisy ace Taylor Lloyd. Leslie sent the next offering over the center field fence for the game-winning hit.

Leslie returned to the circle where all she needed was four pitches to close a 5-3 victory as the Lady Mustangs (20-7, 7-2) handed the Lady Trojans (12-4, 4-1) their first district loss of the season.

Sierra Brown's ninth home run of the season was a two-run blast which tied the score at 3-all for the visitors in the fourth inning. Hannah Guffey drove in an extra insurance run late while Michelle Benson went 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases and runs scored in the victory.

Soddy-Daisy's Jayde Baron hit a home run while Tatum Massengale had an RBI single as the only other hit off Leslie, who allowed one earned run over seven frames.

Lloyd allowed two earned runs while allowing six hits and striking out seven for the Lady Trojans.

BASEBALL

McCallie 13, Chattanooga Christian 1: Nolan Sergeant reached base all four times while scoring three runs as he and Kyle Berry (2-for-3, two runs) sparked the top of the lineup. Austin Breedlove and Hudson Calhoun (two-run home run) combined for five RBIs to back winning pitcher William Baker.

Sequatchie County 8, Grundy County 3: The Indians broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh as they had six hits in the inning. Logan Potts had the go-ahead double while Bodie Terry went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Barron Cribbs and Griffin Hall each had two hits and scored twice. Cribbs struck out eight and did not allow an earned run in six innings.

Silverdale Baptist 11, Grace Academy 1: Sebastian Hanks homered and drove in four while Ian Reagan drove in three more for the Seahawks. Brett Rogers (2-for-3, two runs) and Turner Junkins (2-for-3, three runs) each stole two bases. Evan Padgett threw three perfect innings in relief.

Baylor 10, Knox Catholic 0: Jay Dill threw a six-inning no hitter as the Missouri signee struck out 14. Cooper Kinney went 4-for-4 as he and Danny Corona both doubled and homered for the Red Raiders. Carson Yates also drove in three runs and doubled.

Baylor 12, Knox Catholic 2: Cooper Kinney remained red-hot going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs while Caleb Hampton (home run) and Danny Corona (two doubles) both did damage. Patrick Johnson struck out 12 while allowing three hits and two runs over six innings.

Bradley Central 11, Ooltewah 1: The Bears scored seven in the sixth as Daniel Cox (three RBIs) and Aiden McClary (2-for-4) sparked the offense. Ashton Simmons did not allow a walk and struck out six going the distance.

Sale Creek 6, Bledsoe County 5: Braden Penny scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as he advanced two bases on an error. Camden Penny doubled and tripled while driving in two for the Panthers while Braden Penny struck out the side to close the victory. Tyler Layman also went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Sale Creek.

Calhoun 1, McIntosh 0: Hagan Banks allowed one hit over six innings in which he struck out eight. Bryson Ingle picked up the save for the Yellow Jackets, whose Andon Lewis scored the winning run in the bottom of the fourth. Dante Morton had a triple for Calhoun.

Ridgeland 14, Pickens 3: Curtis Wells went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs along with Hudson Couch and Noland Hughley for the Panthers. Jordan McLin also went 3-for-3 and scored two runs.

Murray County 7, Sonoraville 6: Hunter Hobbs gave Murray County the lead for good when he doubled in two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 5-5 tie. Sonoraville's Cole Godfrey went 3-for-4 with a double and triple to go with three RBIs.

Gordon Lee 17, Mt. Zion 2: Cade Peterson smacked two home runs and drove in four for the Trojans who also got big performances from Brody Cobb (2-for-2, home run, two RBIs) and Kade Cowan (3-for-3, three runs, two RBIs).

Northwest Whitfield 3, Central 2: The Bruins scored all three runs in the bottom of the fifth in which Aiden Hosford doubled in a pair of runs as a part of his two-hit day. Cade Fisher picked up the win allowing two earned runs on seven hits while striking out seven over 5 2/3. Matt Redmond picked up the save.

Armuchee 13, Trion 5: An early 4-0 lead escaped the Bulldogs as they allowed all 13 runs from the fourth inning on. Three pitchers from Armuchee combined for 11 strikeouts while allowing just two hits and walking nine.

Cedartown 5, Heritage 1: Cade Dingler helped build a 5-0 lead as he doubled in three runs in the fifth inning. Reece Tanner and Dylan Cupp were sharp on the mound in the win. Heritage's Brady Chandler went 2-for-2.

Ringgold 9, North Murray 1: Sam Mills and Isaac King each had two-hit days and homered while combining for five RBIs for the Tigers. Mason Parker went 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases. McCain Mangum and Hudson Chandler combined to only allow four hits and no earned runs.

SOFTBALL

Baylor 7, Whitwell 0: Acelynn Sellers recorded a no-hitter, striking out 11 and also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Lady Red Raiders (17-0). Morgan Sharp and Riley Kleksik both also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI apiece and Katie Raper was 2-for-2 with a run scored.

Sequatchie County 13, Marion County 0: Addy Edgmon hit her team-leading 13th home run of the season while Megan Hall also knocked one out of the park. Ella Egmon (2-for-3, two doubles) and Jesyca Dennis (2-for-2, two runs) also backed up Cali Green who threw four shutout innings.

Boyd Buchanan 16, Notre Dame 0: The standout freshman duo of Gracie Petty and Kiley Elliott each hit home runs for the Lady Buccaneers. Petty hit a grand slam and drove in five while Elliott went 2-for-2 with four runs batted in along with allowing just one hit over three innings. Izzy Messer also doubled and tripled while driving in three for Boyd.

East Hamilton 9, McMinn County 4: Reese Knox went 3-for-4 at the plate while Syerra Rogers struck out 16 over seven innings. Emma Sam Reed also had two hits, while Danielle Wasserstrom homered for the Lady Hurricanes. Reed's RBI single in the fifth broke a tie. McMinn County's Sammie Greeson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a home run.

Ooltewah 6, Cleveland 0: Faith O'Donnell drove in four runs to back Annalee Moore who impressed by striking out six and only allowing four hits in a complete game road victory. Ooltewah's Alyssa White scored two runs and had a pair of hits along with Jaycee Holt. Cleveland's Emma Bayne doubled twice in the defeat.
