GOLF

Hillsdale Invitational

Kylee Purdy has made it a habit to be one of the best no matter the competition. One of the girls golfers in the area who competes against the boys on a regular basis, Purdy was the top golfer in the 14-team Hillsdale Invitational, earning medalist honors with an 83 and leading Northwestern to the team title as well.

The Huskies (358) held off Ontario (360) and Smithville (362) to win, behind the strength of another one of the invite's best scores from Joe Buchholz (84).

Hunter Pertee (86) and Gavin Von Almen (88) led the third-place Smithies and Jordan Miller shot an 88 for sixth-place Waynedale. Chippewa (398), Hillsdale (436) and Norwayne also played in the event.

IVC Preseason Tournament

Three players shooting in the 70s was good enough for Hiland to hold off Sandy Valley to win the IVC Preseason Tournament by a single stroke. Nathan Kline (76), Monty Coblentz (77) and Lucas Yoder (78) all went low as Hiland's 315 team score finished atop a tough field.

Tannenhauf Invitational

Dalton placed second in the 18-team Tannenhauf Invite with a score of 325. Jaden Schlabach led the way to continue a strong start to his senior season, shooting a 74 for co-medalist honors. Brendan Lehman shot a 78 and Todd Brahler added an 80.

Manchester 165, Triway 179, Canton South 193

In a PAC-7 tri match, Triway placed second against a tough Manchester team and Canton South. Tyler Snyder led the way once again with a 41 and Drake Starkey added a 43.

Fredericktown 154, Loudonville 169, Granville DQ

Chandeler Gribble shot a 35 and Isaac Gessner carded a 38 to lead Loudonville in a tri match. Judah Layton also shot a 43.

Northwest 165, Orrville 194

Northwest rolled over Orrville, but Noah Mulpas still had a very good day for the Red Riders. He shot a 37 to finish with the second-best score of the day.

GIRLS TENNIS

Wooster 3, Perry 2

Wooster swept singles play on its way to a win over a tough Perry team. Ava Mathur led the way at first singles, prevailing 6-4, 6-2. Minnie Pozefsky won 6-3, 6-4 at second singles and Alexia Kakanuru won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles.

"It was a great match versus a very deep team," Wooster coach Justin Crooks said. "Our singles are coming through and getting the wins we need.  Ava Mathur played a really good match against a solid opponent."
