Prep Roundup: Morenci football falls to Stryker
STRYKER, Ohio — Both offenses were rolling Friday as Morenci and Stryker played an exciting 8-man football game with the Bulldogs falling, 44-38.
The two teams combined for 813 yards of offense and 82 points.
Morenci's (0-2) Landon Mansfield had monster game, scoring all five of the Bulldogs' touchdowns and rushing for more than 250 yards.
The Bulldogs trailed 38-22 at the half, but got within a score with 2:36 to go. Morenci got a Bryson Bachelder interception to kill one Panther drive inside the Bulldogs' 35 and then got a turnover on downs with 2:03 to go on Morenci's 42.
The Bulldogs got a defensive holding call on the final play to give them an untimed down at the Stryker 22-yard line. A false start penalty pushed the down back five yards where Mansfield got the ball to Jayden Ables, who looked to try and toss it back to Mansfield, but was tackled to close the game.

Bedford Summer Classic
TEMPERANCE — Blissfield, Lenawee Christian and Morenci competed in the highly competitive Bedford Summer Classic where both teams went 3-2 with the Cougars winning the silver bracket while the Royals lost in the gold semis.
Blissfield beat Monroe, 25-9, 25-12, and Plymouth Christian, 25-17, 25-17, before falling to host Bedford in pool play, 21-25, 25-11, 15-11.
The Royals took on LCAA foe Ida in the quarterfinal and won, 25-22, 25-18, before falling to Ann Arbor Skyline, 25-15, 25-22.
LCS lost a tight match to Mt. Morris to open the day, 19-25, 25-19, 15-12 before dominating Morenci, 25-5, 25-1, and falling to Skyline, 24-26, 25-16, 15-6.
In the silver bracket, the Cougars beat Petoskey, 25-8, 25-18, and Plymouth Christian, 25-22, 25-16, to take the title.
