Prep Roundup: Norwayne beats defending state champ Waynedale in extras

Norwayne 3, Waynedale 2 (8 innings)
Jay Hanzie's single unknotted a 2-all tie in the eighth inning as the Bobcats went on the road and picked up a huge WCAL win over the defending Division III state champions to open the season.
Norwayne trailed 2-0 heading into the fifth inning against Waynedale star junior Otto Solorzano, but Jake Gill drove in two runs on a bases-loaded double with two outs to tie the score. Ashton Snyder held off Waynedale over the final five innings to pick up the complete game win, walking just one batter.
Solorzano went 7⅓ for Waynedale, striking out eight, and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Trey Barkman and Tristan Franks also had two hits for the Bears.
Norwayne, who split the WCAL title with Waynedale in 2022, has now won three in a row over the Bears.

West Holmes out-hit Wooster 8-3, but the Generals reached base 16 times via walk or hit by pitch to pick up an OCC win.
Blake Bowen once again showcased himself as the most feared hitter in the area, drawing four walks and driving in two runs during his only true at bat. Meanwhile, Brady Bowen worked well over 5⅓ innings, allowing just one run to pick up the win.
