WEDNESDAY

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS - Lemon Bay High girls golfer Sophia Stiwich shot 77 during the second round of the FHSAA Class 2A Championships in the Las Colinas Course.

Along with Stiwich’s even-par 71 in the first round Tuesday, the Manta Rays freshman finished in a tie for sixth with a two-day total of 148.

Starting on the back nine, Stiwich was 5-over par after the first nine before coming back with a 1-over par on the front nine.

Stiwich’s 148 tied her with Gia Culler-Guerra of Mater Lakes. They finished eight shots behind winner Alexandra Gazzoli of Matanzas. Gazzoli had a two-day total of 140 to win by a stroke.

The Manta Rays remained in 13th spot in the team standings. Lemon Bay had a two-day total of 745, 130 shots behind winner Broward American Heritage.

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS - Lemon Bay High girls golfer Sophia Stiwich shot an even-par 71 on the first of two days at the FHSAA Class 2A Championships in the Las Colinas Course.

Starting on the back nine, Stiwich birdied three of the first four holes. The rest of the way, the freshman had a birdie and four bogeys.

Stiwich is tied with Plantation American Heritage’s Katherine Schaefer behind only leader Matanzas’ Alexandra Gazzoli, who carded a 68.

The second round will be held Wednesday.
