PARRISH — The Parrish Community baseball team geared up for the postseason by laying low.

The Bulls rested a number of starters and used seven different pitchers to throw one inning each.

The result was favorable, as Parrish received one-hit pitching and banged out 11 hits in an 8-0 victory over visiting Southeast High on Wednesday night at the Bulls diamond.

“The goal tonight was to stay injury free and get some JV guys in that we called up,” Bulls coach Brett Andrzejewski said. “Get some guys in to get them experience.”

Coming off an emotional Senior Night on Tuesday when Parrish Community honored its first graduating class of baseball players, the Bulls stretched their winning streak to seven games and upped their season mark to 16-9.

Senior Noah Eatman went 2-for-3, knocked in a run and scored a run. Sophomore Ben Phillips also had two hits and scored a run, while reaching base all three times.

The Bulls took advantage of eight Seminole errors to score in their last five at-bats after going out 1-2-3 in the first.

Keegan Duquette, Nick Curbelo, Justin Ledger, Jacon Traeger, Hunter Sisk, Chase Taraska and Carson Allison combined for the one-hitter with 14 strikeouts and one walk.

As the third seed in Class 4A-District 8, Parrish Community will open postseason play with a 7 p.m. home game Monday against Booker High.

Southeast (4-10-1) will head to Riverview to play Sumner in the opening round of the Class 5A-District 7 tournament Monday.

Southeast takeaways

• Despite the miscues in the field, second-year coach Armando Sierra has seen improvements in the team’s defense. In the second inning, the Seminoles threw out a runner at the plate and catcher Josiah Williams gunned down a potential base stealer at second.

• Williams had the lone hit for Southeast, a two-out double in the first inning to right-center field.

• In his second season as coach after moving from the Miami area, Sierra hopes to build around three freshmen: Keyan Thorne, Mark Cohen and Jose Correa going forward.

Parrish Community takeaways

• Bulls coach Brent Andrzejewski was most impressed with his first two pitchers: Duquette and Curbelo. “Those two guys were JV pitchers for us this year,” Andrzejewski said.

• For the most part Andrzejewski has been pleased with the pitching overall this season. The Bulls have a 1.71 earned run average on the season with 235 strikeouts in 176 innings. “I feel real confident in our pitching staff,” Andrzejewski said. “We’ve got three starters who have logged over 30 innings. We’ve been punching out a lot of guys on the mound. Our goal has been if we can score three runs, we feel real confident with our guys.”

• The Bulls reached base in 19 of 33 plate appearances with three strikeouts. During the winning streak, Parrish Community has outscored its opponents, 49-7. “When you put the ball in play, good things will happen,” Andrzejewski said. “It’s been our motto all year and saw it happen again tonight.”
