VOLLEYBALL
North Port names Thomas coach
North Port High named Jennica Thomas as its new volleyball coach. Thomas played varsity volleyball for four years at Northside Christian High School in St. Petersburg, where she also ran track for four years. She played volleyball during her freshman and sophomore seasons at Winthrop University in South Carolina and then transferred for her junior and senior seasons at the University of South Florida, where graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s in school counseling.
Thomas served as an assistant volleyball coach at Cambridge Christian School in Tampa in 2015 and with the Bobcats in 2019-2020.
Cougars’ Byrd second in 3A voting
Cardinal Mooney Catholic’s Jordyn Byrd finished second in the Florida Dairy Farmers voting for Class 3A Volleyball Player of the Year.
Byrd finished second behind Clearwater Calvary Christian’s Taylor Parks, 69-61.
