PREP ROUNDUP | Wooster wins on senior night against WCAL champ Norwayne

BASEBALL

Wooster 10, Norwayne 6

In a rare matchup of the OCC and WCAL champs, Wooster picked up the win on its senior night. The Generals pulled away with three runs in the sixth inning to improve to 19-4 this season.

Drew Becker continued hitting well, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Wooster. Jack Williams also drove in three runs, Brady Bowen had two hits and two RBIs and Elisha Steiner added two hits and scored twice for the Generals.

Senior Zach Harpster picked up the win for Wooster in relief, going three innings and allowing just one run. The Generals overcame seven errors to pick up the win, with its pitchers allowing no earned runs.

Lucas Dudte had three hits to lead Norwayne.

Rittman 9, St. Thomas Aquinas 4

Jonah Carr hit two home runs as Rittman rolled to a win over St. Thomas Aquinas.

Carr also pitched 3⅔ scoreless innings in relief for the Indians as Caleb Smith picked up the win. Jackson Frame drove in two runs and Nolan Frame had two hits for Rittman.

Triway 13, River View 3

Triway picked up 14 hits as it prepared for tournament play with a win over River View.

Brock Tisko led the way with three hits and Carter Schmid, Grant Schag and Easton Barnard each had two hits in the win. Barnard led Triway with three RBIs and Simon Kitchen picked up the win on the mound.

Waynedale 11, Tusky Valley 3

Eleven Waynedale players accounted for hits as the Golden Bears got in some valuable action before tournament play begins.

Dylan Raber, Josiah Rober, Trey Barkman, Conner Gatti and Jaiden Barnes each had two hits for the Bears, with Josiah Rober leading the team with three RBIs.

Ian Lehman picked up the win, pitching four innings and striking out six.

Tuslaw 13, Conotton Valley 3

Logan Amstutz had three hits and three RBIs to lead a 12-hit day for Tuslaw.

Chase Mizeres, Jackson Weaver and Keenan Kinsey also had multi-hit games, each driving in a pair of runs. Ryan Lipinski had two hits as well and Caden Gardner picked up the win on the mound.

Strasburg-Franklin 2, Dalton 1

Despite an eight-hit day and a sterling performance from Jaden Schlabach on the mound, Dalton couldn't quite get it done against Strasburg.

Schlabach, who hasn't pitched much all season, allowed just two hits over six innings, but the 'Dawgs couldn't get baserunners around to back him up.

Colter Chupp drove in Dalton's only run and Jack Steiner had two hits in the loss.

SOFTBALL

Northwestern 1, Norwayne 0

Northwestern's Daylie Rickard did just enough to outduel Norwayne's Alexa Cottrell as the Huskies picked up a late-season WCAL win.

Rickard allowed just four hits during her shutout performance, while Olivia Amstutz drove in the game's only run during the third inning on a sacrifice fly.

Cottrell allowed just six hits and struck out seven in taking the loss.

Waynedale 10, Smithville 0

Brooklyn Schlabach struck out 14 batters, only allowing one hit in a WCAL win over Smithville.

Chloe Wolfe led Waynedale with three hits, while Schlabach, Kenzie Beckler, Kaitlyn Miller and Lacey Walters finished with two hits for the Bears.

Hillsdale 12, Dalton 1

The Falcons closed out their WCAL schedule with another dominant win, with Taylor Morgan allowing five hits and the offense doing the rest.

Belle Dalton led the way for Hillsdale, falling a triple short of the cycle during a three-hit, five-RBI performance. Madi Bennett also had two hits and two RBIs.

Alexis Vazquez led Dalton with two hits and drove in its only run.

Tuslaw 19, Northwest 3

Kylie Johnson hit two home runs and Camryn Kiefer and Meridith Rankl also went yard as Tuslaw rolled to another PAC-7 win.

The Mustangs had 19 hits in total, with Lillian Bucher going 3-for-3 and Rankl and Johnson each putting up five RBIs.

Manchester 8, Orrville 3

Orrville scored twice in the first inning, but couldn't keep up the pace in a PAC-7 loss to Manchester.

Candace Troyer led the way, driving in two runs for the Red Riders. Annie Ayers threw three scoreless innings in relief.
