PREP SOCCER: Eagles post runaway victory

Sep. 16—EAGLE POINT — Six different players scored a goal for Eagle Point as the host Eagles secured an 8-0 mercy rule triumph over Mazama in boys soccer action Thursday night.

Gideon Lundberg ripped a beautiful 30-yard shot into the upper 90 to close out the contest in the 74th minute for Eagle Point (2-0).

The Eagles got the scoring started in the eighth minute on a goal by Gerado Maria Herrera, and carried a 3-0 lead into halftime on goals in the 23rd minute by Allan Ramirez and 28th minute by Jeremiah Cordle.

"It was a pretty slow start," said EP coach Juan Palomares of Thursday's outing. "That first half, even though we went 3-nil into the half, it wasn't the best play. It wasn't until the second half when we really turned it on and started playing our game."

Cesar Campuzano scored in the 42nd minute off an assist by Oscar Gonzalez Gomez before Octavio Garcia tacked on back-to-back goals within one minute of the other in the 54th and 55th minutes. Ramirez earned an assist on the first effort.

Maria Herrera tallied his second goal of the game to make it 7-0 in the 65th.

Having a multitude of a scorers against Mazama (0-3) was something Palomares was pleased to see on Thursday.

"It just opens up our possibilities with multiple people able to score instead of having to rely on that one player that everybody is going to have to mark," he said.

Trent Silani and Angel Cervantes each served a half in goal, and helping them keep a clean sheet was a defense led by Moses Angel, Kevin Lopez Alanis and Andre Ramirez.

ST. MARY'S 8, ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 0: Freshman forward Jose Mondesi scored a hat trick and set up a pair of goals to led St. Mary's to the 3A/2A/1A District 5 win at Lithia & Driveway Fields.

Mondesi scored in the ninth and 12th minutes, then assisted on goals by junior Leandro Cronk and freshman Oliver Ford to give the Crusaders (2-1, 2-0 Dist. 5) a 4-0 lead midway through the first half.

Cronk assisted sophomore Magni Glaser to cap the Crusaders' big first half.

Chris Kranenburg and Mondesi scored early in the second half before Cronk's 60th-minute strike ended things via the mercy rule.

Goalkeeper David Zamudio made a number of saves for RVA (1-1, 1-1).
