PREP TENNIS: CMR boys share state championship title with Bozeman; girls finish second

MISSOULA The last time the boys' tennis team at Charles Marion Russell High School got to hang a ceremonial state championship rug inside the Russell Fieldhouse, none of the players were old enough to remember.

In fact, only a few of them at best were even in diapers.

Today, the seniors on this year's Rustler boys squad are celebrating a state championship, even though they're sharing the title with the Bozeman Hawks.

And it took a come-from-behind effort by the Hawks' doubles team of Luke Raynovich and Owen Sanford to just tie for the team title, as the Bozeman team took third by beating Carson Bruyere and Dayton Magone of Billings West in three sets to bring the team point total to 27-27.

But that's not what you came here to hear, isn't it? (I'm a poet and didn't know it!)

On the other side of the ledger, the CMR girls finished a distant second but still second as the Lady Hawks made a runaway out of the girls' team title.

This story will be updated.
