Prep Track and Field: Willmar boys 2nd, girls 3rd at CLC championship

Jun. 4—SAUK RAPIDS — Alexandria swept the top spots — with the boys clipping Willmar in the final event — at the Central Lakes Conference track and field championships Thursday at Sauk Rapids Middle School.

In the final event, the 4x400-meter relay, Alex took second with a time of 3 minutes, 34.15 seconds while Willmar placed third at 3:36.71. With that win, Alex finished with a team score of 131.5, compared to 131 for Willmar.

In the girls' meet, Alex finished with 170.5, beating Brainerd (127) and Willmar (106) for the top spot.

Senior Sam May was a two-time winner for Willmar, winning the 110 hurdles (15.25) and 300 hurdles (41.05). He also finished second in the high jump (6 feet, 1 inches).

Aaron Watland took first in the triple jump at 43-7, third in the long jump (20-11.5), fourth in the 110 hurdles (16.27) and fifth in the high jump.

The 4x200 relay — with Lucas Trochlil, Michael Price, Tanner Fleming and May — won with a time of 1:31.83.

Other top-five finishers for the Willmar boys were: Price in the long jump (second, 21-2.25); Caden Carlson in the pole vault (second, 12-9); Jacob Rosendahl in the discus (third, 131-7); and Colin O'Farrell in the 800 (fourth, 2:01.91) and 1,600 (fourth, 4:35.12).

Sam Christoffer won the girls' 200 (26.15) and placed second in the 100 (12.64). Another Willmar win came in the 4x400 relay — with Christoffer, Jaida Reiman, Lyndi Koosman and Hannah Quinn — at 4:09.21.

Top five finishers for the Willmar girls include: Nina Dawson in the 800 (second, 2:24.18) and 1,600 (second, 5:23.82); Lauren Eilers in the 3,200 (second, 11:52.81); Ava Brogren in the high jump (second, 5-0); Koosman in the pole vault (second, 9-2); Erin Eilers in the 3,200 (third, 11:56.68); and Madelyn Gregory in the shot put (fifth, 34-4.5).

Willmar now turns its attention to the Section 8AA championship. Prelims are Wednesday at Sartell, with the championships on Saturday, June 12 at Fergus Falls.
