Prescribed burn planned near Bee Cave Wednesday

BEE CAVE, Texas (KXAN) – People living and traveling through Bee Cave may notice smoke in the sky Wednesday.

The Austin Wildfire Division posted on social media that a non profit would be conducting a prescribed burn.

According to AFD, the Nature Conservancy will burn 125 acres of the Barton Creek Habitat Preserve near Bee Cave and Highway 71 on Wednesday.

It said people would see smoke throughout the day as “we work to return good fire to the landscape.”

How prescribed burns benefits local ecological communities

AFD did not say when the burn would begin or end.

First Warning Weather Forecast

For Wednesday, KXAN meteorologist Kristen Currie forecasted south to southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

According to a April 2023 KXAN Weather-Traffic in-depth report on prescribed burns, weather thresholds are put in place for safety, with a hard stop issued for winds above 23 mph.
