Prescribed burns in Florida could cause hazardous driving conditions

Channel 9 is looking to clear the air around something you may have noticed recently on your morning commute; smoke on the road.

Drone 9 flew over State Road 520 Tuesday morning after is was shut down because smoke made it hard to see.

It’s prescribed burn season right now in Florida.

Days with little wind are the best time of year for firefighters to clear out dead vegetation.

Firefighters and Florida forest officials work to burn vegetation that may otherwise cause a wildfire and also promote future growth.

We’re expecting many more active burns across Central Florida in the days ahead, so you’re going to want to stay alert.

However, the smoke can be hazardous as it lingers and drifts over roadways, reducing visibility which can cause accidents.
