Historic Augusta will release its 2024 Endangered Properties List at a press conference 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Sand Hills Community Center at 2540 Wheeler Rd.

The list highlights local structures in need of help, their interesting stories, what has been done to keep them standing and what is still needed. Here were those listed last year:

  • Modjeska Theatre on Broad Street, which was threatened by water infiltration and other neglect-related deterioration factors.

  • Tubman Home Cottage on Milledgeville Road, which needed a new owner.

  • Sibley Mill Tenement Housing on Broad Street, which was boarded up and faced demolition by neglect.

  • Heavenly Bound Church of God in Christ on Druid Park Avenue, which needed an extensive exterior rehabilitation including roof repairs.

During the press conference, Historic Augusta will also update the public on listings from the past and what their current needs are.

The organization hopes this will attract the attention of investors, politicians and other interested groups.  It is also meant to help the community focus in on the historic buildings with the greatest need, or those which represent a particular type that also have a chance of being preserved through solution-oriented grassroots efforts.
