While speaking at the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health, President Biden asked if Representative Jackie Walorski was in the audience. Unfortunately, Representative Walorksi, a Republican from Indiana, passed away in the beginning of August due to being in a car crash. She was killed along with two of her staff members when their car hit another vehicle in a head on collision. This gaffe by the President is an unfortunate slip up as he and his wife, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, had released a statement expressing their condolences immediately after Representative Walorski died. Representative Walorski had been an active member of the House Hunger Caucus which is why President Biden mentioned her during the speech.

BIDEN: “I want to thank all of you here for, including bipartisan elected officials like Representative McGovern, Senator Braun, Senator Booker, Representative Jackie, are you here? Where's Jackie? I didn’t think she was going to be here, to help make this a reality.”
