'President Donald J. Trump Highway': Florida state representative proposes renaming US 27 for former president

LEESBURG, Fla. — Florida state Rep. Anthony Sabatini wants to rename a nearly 500-mile stretch of highway in the Sunshine State in honor of former President Donald Trump. .
Sabatini, a Republican, announced he intends to file an amendment that would change the name of U.S. Highway 27 to the "President Donald J. Trump Highway."
"This great highway runs through the heartland of Florida in the State that President Trump calls home," Sabatini wrote on his Facebook page. "Looking forward to working on this important designation honoring one of the greatest Presidents in American History."
The 481-mile north-to-south highway runs from the state's capital of Tallahassee and down the heart of the state to South Florida. Sabatini told the Orlando Sentinel he chose U.S. 27 because it runs through his home district.

Sabatini's proposal came the day before Trump, who became a Florida resident in 2019, returned to his home at Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach.
The former president and first lady left the White House Wednesday morning before President Joe Biden's inauguration.
Trump wouldn't be the first former president to have a highway named after him.
President Barack Obama, Trump's predecessor, had a stretch of California freeway named for him in 2018. The Washington Post compiled a list of highways and landmarks -- there are a few -- named for President Ronald Reagan. The President George Bush turnpike in Texas -- named for the late George H.W. Bush -- is a 52-mile east-west stretch of road in in the northern half of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, according to the North Texas Tollway Authority.
When it comes to landmarks, John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in the nation's capitol are two large-scale examples transportation hubs named for presidents.
