President Eisenhower's funeral train stops a Union Terminal in 1969

Before George H.W. Bush, the last president to travel home for burial by train by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1969. Ike's train lefft Washington, D.C, at 6 p.m. on March 31 and arrived at Union Terminal, head to Kansas, about 10 a.m. on April 1. Mrs. Eisenhower had requested rthe that the train cars not carry flags or bunting, but when it arrived in Cincinnati, she charged her mind. After seeing people lining the tracks to pay their respect, she requested bunting and flags be added to the train car carrying her husband.
