President, first lady make unannounced visit to Trump's D.C. hotel

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump made an unannounced visit to the Trump International Hotel in Washington on Friday night.

The first couple traveled by motorcade to the hotel for dinner at about 8 p.m., with onlookers crowding the lobby for a chance to meet the president and first lady.

President Trump could be seen entering the lobby as supporters shouted out praise for the president, who wore a blue suit and striped tie, and the first lady, who sported an emerald green dress, according to video posted on social media.

The first couple returned to the White House at 9:55 p.m., according to a pool report.

The Supreme Court on Friday afternoon lifted a lower court order that blocked a key part of Trump's plan to build a wall along the southern border wall — sending the president off on a positive note into the weekend, over which he has no public events scheduled.

"Wow! Big VICTORY on the Wall. The United States Supreme Court overturns lower court injunction, allows Southern Border Wall to proceed. Big WIN for Border Security and the Rule of Law!" Trump tweeted Friday evening.

Earlier Friday, the president gave wide-ranging remarks to reporters at an impromptu gathering in the Oval Office.
