President Joe Biden, in his first major gun control measures since taking office, is announcing executive actions Thursday aimed at addressing what the White House calls a “gun violence public health epidemic."
- A series of executive actions aimed at addressing gun violence. One will address so-called ghost guns which are made from kits without serial numbers. Another would review the use of stabilizing braces on pistols, which turns them into short barreled rifles.
The president will also ask the Justice Department to draft model legislation to implement red flag laws at the state level. Those laws would prevent people facing mental health issues from accessing firearms.
JOE BIDEN: Today, we're taking steps to confront not just the gun crisis but what is actually a public health crisis. Nothing I'm about to recommend in any way impinges on the Second Amendment.
