QUINCY − President John Adams' 288th birthday will be celebrated at noon Monday, Oct. 30, with a wreath-laying ceremony at the United First Parish Church in Quincy Center.

Cmdr. Mathew Miller, of the Navy Operational Support Center Quincy, will present the wreath and represent President Joe Biden, and that unit will provide an honor guard.

The event will include a keynote address by Marianne Holdzkom, author of "Remembering John Adams: The Second President in History, Memory and Popular Culture."

Also speaking will be an Adams descendant, Mayor Thomas Koch and students from Quincy High School, North Quincy High School and The Woodward School.

The Quincy Choral Society and the Crosswinds Woodwind Quintet from the Navy Band Northeast will perform, Discover Quincy said in a Facebook post. There will be a reception after the ceremony.

This ceremony is open to the public and tours of the crypt will be offered, Discover Quincy said.

Adams is entombed in the church's crypt alongside his wife, Abigail Adams; his son, President John Quincy Adams; and his son's wife, Louisa Catherine Adams.
