Who was President the last time the Patriots were 2-4?

The New England Patriots have sunk to depths they have not seen in 20 years. After being thrashed by the San Francisco 49ers, 33-6, Sunday in Foxboro, Bill Belichick & Co. are 2-4.

If it weren’t for the colossal ineptitude of the New York Jets, the Pats would be in last place. As is, they are looking up at the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

So, when was the last time the New England Patriots started a season at 2-4 and what was going on in the world?

  • The year was 2000. It was Bill Belichick’s first in New England. They went 0-4 before winning a pair of games to get to 2-4.

  • Drew Bledsoe was the quarterback. Tom Brady was simply a sixth-round pick out of Michigan who played in one game, going 1-for-3 for six yards.

  • The Rams defeated the Titans in the Super Bowl following that season. Kevin Dyson came up a yard short.

  • The No. 1 song of that year was “Breathe” by Faith Hill.

  • The second term of Bill Clinton as President was coming to a close with the election a month away.

In case you are wondering, Brady seems to be faring better in Tampa Bay. He threw four touchdown passes as the Bucs lit up the Raiders in Las Vegas.

And if that doesn’t sting. it comes on top of the Patriots being abused by Jimmy Garoppolo for 277 yards. Garoppoli was. of course, the backup for Brady with the Patriots.
