Presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham will speak at the inaugural Virginia Tay Memorial Lecture Series event on Saturday, Sept. 10.

HINGHAM – Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Jon Meacham is the inaugural speaker in the Virginia Tay Memorial Lecture Series.

The free lecture, "The Soul of America," is based on Meacham's book of the same name. It is scheduled 1 p.m. Sept. 10 at Sanborn Auditorium, which is in town hall, 210 Central St.

The Virginia Tay Memorial Lecture Series, co-sponsored by the Hingham Historical Commission and Mary Anne Donaldson, honors Donaldson's late twin sister, Virginia Tay, who was active in preserving Hingham's history.

Meacham’s books include “Hope Through History,” "The Art of Leadership: Lessons from the American Presidency" and "Songs of America."  He has also written biographies about Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln.

James B. Conroy, an author, Hingham resident and member of the Hingham Historical Society board of directors, will moderate. A question-and-answer session with the audience will be held after the lecture.
