Prestige Assisted Living to host first Senior Care Collective Breakfast

Feb. 16—Prestige Assisted Living at Marysville will be hosting its first Senior Care Collective Breakfast on Feb.16 at 9 a.m.

The event is a collective effort between groups such as Prestige, Comfort Keepers, Emerald Oaks Assisted Living, and Summerfield Senior Living of Yuba City, but organizers are open to including more collaborators.

"The primary goal of this event is to host four meetings a year to discuss the important needs of the city, senior community, and how we can all collectively come together from different agencies in the city to help our senior citizens with their needs," said Linda Melius, a client care coordinator for Comfort Keepers. "Because really, it's not just about serving our seniors, it's about serving the entire community and while helping the seniors, we help their families during the challenging times that they may face when their loved one needs help."

Melius has been leading the charge on this inclusive initiative in an effort to serve the community in alignment with her own values and those of Comfort Keepers, a group dedicated to the at-home care of seniors and veterans.

"In our industry there are meetings typically once a month during lunch time to discuss the needs of seniors or listen to a guest speaker on a related topic," explained Melius. "Alexis Thacker (director at Prestige) has been amazing in working together to build solid resource connections between agencies that deal with senior citizens and veterans in any capacity. We are super excited to have Prestige Assisted Living host our first breakfast meeting."

Around 40 attendees are expected to be at this inaugural breakfast meeting with representation from several community agencies such as the Blue Zones Project, Alzheimer's Association, Adventist Health/Rideout, Hard Rock, local law enforcement, and both the Yuba City and Marysville fire departments. As meetings become more regular, Melius and her team expect interest and attendance to grow exponentially.

"We invite any businesses that would like to speak or present to the senior care collective group to share their information," said Melius. "This event is open to anyone who has the passion and care for senior citizens. They must want to be a valuable resource for those who are in need and be willing to collaborate with all agencies in the Yuba-Sutter area."

This breakfast meeting is free and will include a complementary granola bar, fresh fruit, quiche, and refreshments. Prestige Assisted Living is located at 515 Harris St. in Marysville. For more information or to RSVP, email Lindamelius@comfortkeepers.com.
