Pretrial hearing scheduled for Pelfree

Another pretrial hearing has been scheduled for Jerry Pelfree, who's accused of killing two men and hiding their bodies in barrels on his rural Monroe County property.

Pelfree has pleaded not guilty to the charges he killed Douglas Allen Brown and Everett Lynn Shaw, and his attorney has said his client is innocent. He'll next appear in court March 12 for a pretrial hearing.

Pelfree was arrested in September after investigators said they found human remains identified as those of Brown and Shaw in barrels on his property on West Ison Road. Both men were shot, officials said. Shaw, 35, was reported missing from his Gosport home in March. Brown, 23, of Bloomington, was reported missing to Bloomington police during the summer.

Here are some updates in other ongoing court cases

Nikolas G. Stratigos, 28, of Solsberry, was sentenced to six years in prison with three of those years suspended after he pleaded guilty to a felony burglary charge per an agreement. He was ordered on probation for three years as well, court documents show. That sentence is to be served concurrently with a three-year sentence on a felony theft charge. Stratigos was charged with burglary last year after an 87-year-old woman called police and said she saw and heard someone trying to break into her home in the 400 block of East Cottage Grove. Police found a crawl space window had been removed and evidence that someone had tried to enter the home through the space without success. Stratigos was found nearby. The theft charge stems from a March incident in Ellettsville in which Stratigos allegedly said he drove another man to a home, where that man demanded methadone at gunpoint from a resident.

Robert M. Clark was sentenced to 18 months in jail with one year suspended following a guilty plea to a felony charge of battery resulting in serious bodily injury. The conviction can be reduced to a misdemeanor provided he successfully completes two years of probation and 200 hours of community service. He was also required to pay $125 in restitution, court documents show. Clark was charged with battery last year after being accused of injuring a pizza deliverer, who police said suffered a broken leg.
