FAMU baseball unblemished after first SWAC series, hosts Alabama A&M in conference home opener

So far, so good for Florida A&M baseball in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.

The Rattlers (9-12, 3-0 SWAC) swept their first series at Mississippi Valley State last weekend.

Pitcher Hunter Viets performance was the highlight of the series after throwing a complete game shutout in the second game of the series. He earned the SWAC's Pitcher of the Week award for the March 18 outing.

Now that FAMU is in its conference schedule, the Rattlers are now playing a modified schedule that includes a midweek game. They fell to Troy University 10-0 in Alabama on Wednesday.

The Rattlers will host their first SWAC game of the season when the Alabama A&M Bulldogs (10-9, 2-1 SWAC) come to Tallahassee's Moore-Kittles Field for a three-game weekend series from March 24-March 26.

AAMU won its SWAC opening series against Bethune-Cookman last week.

Last season, the Rattlers won both series against Bulldogs, going 5-1 overall in the process.

FAMU softball traveling to Alabama State, attempting to shake off last weekend's series loss

After a sweeping Jackson State in the SWAC opener, FAMU dropped the series 1-2 to in-state rivals Bethune-Cookman.

The Rattlers (10-12, 4-2 SWAC) will be on the road for the first time in conference play after having their initial two series in Tallahassee.

FAMU will be in Montgomery to take on the Alabama State Hornets (15-13, 4-1 SWAC), who were the 2022 SWAC Tournament runners-up.

This will be FAMU's second trip to Montgomery this season as they competed in the HBCU Tournament on Alabama State's campus. The Rattlers went a perfect 4-0 in the process, but didn't play against the Hornets.

Alabama State won its last conference series against Alabama A&M, 2-1, but fell 13-1 to Jacksonville State in a midweek game on Wednesday.

FAMU struggled against Alabama State last season, going a combined 1-5 and dropping both series.
