Priciest home sales last month include Wellington equestrian estates and Boca Raton waterfront properties

The priciest homes in Palm Beach County in July were an eclectic assortment of properties that included yawning equestrian estates in Wellington, a historic beach house in Gulf Stream and a contemporary waterfront home in Boca Raton.
And, really, isn't that what South Florida is all about? Horses and the beach? And now, soccer start Lionel Messi, of course, but he's not on July's Top 5 list.
While the two landlocked equestrian properties, which both touted proximity to a coveted bridle path, fetched the highest premiums in July, it is the former home of Lila Vanderbilt that carries the weighty memories of wartime tradecraft and bygone glamour. Named Miradero (Spanish for lookout) the home was a perch to watch for German U-boats off Florida's coast during World War II.
As always, the Town of Palm Beach is excluded in this list because it would likely dominate the top sales each month. The list was gathered with information from filed deeds, the Palm Beach County Property Appraiser and the online brokerage firm Redfin. It may not be exhaustive or include off-market listings.
