Pride Festival | Bourbon & Beyond | Fresh apples!

Good morning Derby City!

Feel that crisp breeze in the air? We are just a week away from the beginning of autumn. I even spotted a few yellow leaves in my backyard this morning, while enjoying some pumpkin creamer in my coffee.

I know, I know. There are still warm days ahead, but as I write this, it's a delightful 64 degrees outside. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's eager to stop staring out the window and start filling my calendar with fun things to do.

Shall we?

My colleagues have been busy keeping us all in the know about what's happening in Kentuckiana. Let's take a look at what they've been up to!

Um, yum! Looking for that authentic autumn taste? − Lifestyle reporter Kirby Adams tells you how to track down "truly fresh" apples. The refrigerated Apple Truck is bringing freshly picked Michigan apples, and it will make multiple stops in Louisville, Thursday, Sept. 22, and Friday, Sept. 23.

Do you have your tickets for Bourbon and Beyond, yet? − This beloved Louisville music festival is back after a two-year hiatus, and Kirby has created a complete guide to the music and experiences. The event has been expanded from three to four days and will include 50 plus bands on three stages, alongside hands-on bourbon workshops and tastings and culinary programming with celebrity chefs.

Get to know the bands at− Kirby also spent some time ahead of Bourbon and Beyond chatting with a few of the performers. Want to know what's up with the Doobie Brothers before you see them take the stage on Sunday? She's got the answers. Kirby also introduces us to "Kingfish," who Rolling Stone magazine has called "one of the most exciting young guitarists in years, with a sound that encompasses B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Prince." She also caught up with two bands with Kentucky roots — Jukebox The Ghost and the Kentucky Ramblers.

Show your PRIDE − The Pride Festival is also back after a two-year hiatus. This celebration of the LGBTQ+ community features two stages, drag shows, more than 100+ vendors, a family zone, among other activities. Courier Journal intern Caleb Stultz has compiled all the details for you on the event, which takes over Bardstown Road in the Highlands this weekend.

Alright! Now that we've got your weekend calendar blocked out, please take a few minutes to pass this newsletter on to a friend so they can do the same.

Cheers folks.
