Pride Month 2022: Your guide to celebrating LGBTQ pride across Michigan

June is Pride Month and cities across Michigan are getting ready to celebrate.

Across the state, there are several events dedicated to celebrating the LGBTQ community, including learning about its history and supporting community vendors.

To celebrate Pride Month 2022, we've put together a comprehensive list of pride gatherings throughout Michigan.

Battle Creek

Battle Creek Pride will hold several events from July 14-17. These include a pride parade in downtown Battle Creek on July 15, a pride festival on July 16 and a candlelight vigil July 17.

Bay City

The Great Lakes Bay Pride Festival will return to downtown Bay City on June 25. The family-friendly festival will feature retail, resource and food vendors, along with a health screening area, live entertainment, a children’s activity area and a beverage tent.

The festival is free to attend and open to all.

Berkley

The first annual Berkley Pride Block Party will take place June 26 in downtown Berkley.

The party is a free, family-friendly event and will feature a food trucks, drag queen entertainment, crafts for the kids and more.

Detroit

The Motor City Pride Festival and Parade will take place at Hart Plaza on June 11-12. According to the website, Motor City Pride is Michigan’s largest pride celebration, with more than 40,000 participants.

Admission is $5 for those 12 and older.

The festival will run from 1-9 p.m. June 11, with gates closing at 8 p.m. On June 12, the parade will take place at noon with the festival running from 12:30-7 p.m. Gates will close at 6 p.m.

Additionally, Hotter Than July, hosted by LGBT Detroit, will take place July 15-17. According to the website, Hotter than July started in 1996 to celebrate Detroit’s Black LGBTQ community and holds the title as the world’s second-oldest Black LGBTQ Pride with thousands of attendees.

This year’s events include an art show, a concert featuring Da Brat and a Sunday brunch, among others.

Ferndale

Ferndale hosts one of the largest LGBTQAUI festivals in the state, according to the event website. This year’s Ferndale Pride will be held from 1-10 p.m. June 4.

The festival will feature 180 vendors and two stages of entertainment, with participating bars, restaurants and shops.

Additionally, Transgender Pride in the Park will be held Aug. 13. at Martin Road Park. This event will include a virtual mall and a limited live picnic and vendor area. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and beverages.

Flint

The 12th Annual Flint Gay Pride Festival will be held from 2-8 p.m. June 25 at Riverbank Park.

Frankenmuth

The Mid Michigan Enchanted Forest will host the first annual “Pride is in the Faire” gathering July 23.

This is an unofficial day for LGBTQ attendees and allies to gather for celebration. There will be family-friendly activities for both adults and children.

Guests can wear medieval garb or come as they are.

Grand Rapids

The 34th annual Pride Festival will take place June 18. According to the website, over the last 34 years, the festival has grown into one of the largest one-day events in Grand Rapids.

General admission for the event is free, but donations are welcome.

The Grand Rapids Pride Center will also hold several free events during Pride Month.

Holland

The Holland Pride Festival will be held from noon to 5 p.m. June 25 in Centennial Park.

This year's festival will feature resource booths and food trucks, along with music, dancing and a selfie balloon wall.

Additionally, several events will be held in Holland throughout Pride Month.

Jackson

Jackson 2022 PrideFest will take place in downtown Jackson on Aug. 20. It will kick off with a walk of Pride to Horrace Blackman Park in downtown Jackson, with Code Blü headlining live music from 4-8 p.m.

PrideFest is hosted by Jackson Pride Center and will include a health screening area, LGBTQ+ resources, and food trucks.

Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo Pride will return in-person June 3-4 at Arcadia Creek Festival Place. According to the website, the festival draws thousands of attendees from southwest Michigan.

The two-day festival will feature drag performances, food, dancing and more.

Lansing

Michigan Pride will hold a 2022 Rally at the Capitol on June 26.

This year’s event will forgo a parade and festival and will look different, organizers say, as a start to getting back to in-person engagement.

Lowell

Authentically You — Pride 2022 will take place at the Riverwalk on June 4 for the city’s second annual Pride event.

It will feature vendors, drag queens, a fashion show and much more. You can register for it here.

Marquette

UP Rainbow Pride will hold Pride Fest 2022 from 1-11 p.m. June 11 in Mattson Lower Harbor Park in downtown Marquette.

Muskegon

Hosted by Muskegon Pride Center, the Muskegon Pride Festival will take place June 4 in downtown Muskegon. The festival will feature live music, entertainment, street vendors and hands-on activities.

Additionally, there will be HIV testing, a drag queen story hour, free mom hugs and an after party drag show at Unruly Brewing.

New Buffalo

The 2nd Annual Harbor Country Pride Week will be held from June 1-6. The rundown of events includes a restaurant round-up, live music night and prom events for both teens and adults.

Ortonville

Abigail's Pride began in 2021, named after Abigail Rowe, a sophomore at Brandon High School who planned the first pride event in Ortonville after a conversation with her mom about the lack of pride events in her area, according to the website.

This year's pride festival will take place June 4 in downtown Ortonville. It will feature entertainment, food trucks, games and more.

Saugatuck/Douglas

Saugatuck/Douglas is holding several events during Pride Month from June 1-5, including a drag bowling party, a car parade and a festival featuring live entertainment.

South Lyon

South Lyon Pride will be held from noon to 4 p.m. July 9 at McHattie Park. This year's family-friendly event is free to attend and will feature entertainment, face painting and a kids rainbow run, among others.

Sterling Heights

Macomb County is celebrating Pride Month with a Pride Picnic at Dodge Park. Attendees will gather at Pavilion No. 2 from noon to 4 p.m. June 26. There will be music and yard games.

Although the picnic will be free to attend, a donation of $5 is suggested to help plan future events.

Macomb County plans to hold a "Fall into Pride" event Oct. 7-9 in downtown Mount Clemens, featuring a pub crawl, street fair and carnival.

Traverse City

Traverse City’s official Pride Week will take place from Sept. 28-Oct. 2. This will be the ninth year of the Up North Pride celebration, according to the organization’s website.

Celebrations will include a comedy night at the City Opera House, a Visibility March, a drag performance, Sunday brunch and more.
