Pride Month events announced

Jun. 3—Eastern New Mexico Rising has announced events it's scheduled for Pride Month this year. According to a release from the organization, events are scheduled June 18-25 in Clovis or Portales.

The release states that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan in New York City. The purpose of the month is to recognize the impact that LGBTQ+ individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally, according to the release.

Here is a rundown of the events:

— Chalk it Up to Pride! June 18. A free event to chalk on public sidewalks in downtown Clovis (meet in front of the Public Library) and Portales (meet in front of the Do Drop In). This event takes place at 3 p.m. in both locations and chalk will be provided.

— Drag Queen Story Hour, 6 p.m., June 21 at the Clovis Youth Recreation Building, 1504 E. Seventh St. Free event for all ages. Book readings and refreshments to be expected.

— Color Me Queer paint party, June 22. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. at Just Kiln Me Now, 405 N. Main St., Clovis. Cost to participate is $26 and includes everything needed to paint a piece. Tickets may be purchased online or in person via Just Kiln Me Now.

— Pride Solidarity March, June 23. The march will begin at the Roosevelt County Courthouse Square at 5 p.m. and end at the Eastern New Mexico University campus. No registration is necessary. Following the solidarity march, at 7 p.m., a Big Gay Movie Night will be held upstairs at AJ's Wings, 107 W. 2nd St., to view feature film Love, Simon. This event is free, and popcorn will be provided.

— Pride Parade, June 24, 10 a.m. Clovis Main Street. Individuals, groups and businesses interested in participating should complete the parade registration form online at: enmrising.org/pride .

— Pridefest, noon-4 p.m., June 24, Hillcrest Park across from the splash pad. The event is free and will feature crafts, food and informational vendors, entertainment and activities.

— Drag on Main, June 24. A drag show and DJ will be held at Red Door Brewery Levine's Garden at 414 N. Main St. in Clovis starting at 7 p.m. The cover charge is $5 with a portion of the profit to be donated to a local charitable organization.

— Brunch with Queens, June 25. An 18+ drag brunch show held at Do Drop In in Portales starting at 11 a.m. This is a ticketed event for $25 a ticket, and a limited number of tickets are still available.
