Priest arrested in Mexico City seminary student's killing

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico City authorities and news reports say a priest has been arrested in connection to the recent killing of a seminary school student.

Prosecutors say in a statement that a suspect identified only by the first name Francisco was arrested Wednesday night.

Mexican media widely reported that the suspect was priest Francisco Javier Bautista.

Leonardo Avendaño, 29, was found dead in his car June 12.

Prosecutors say he was at the priest's house for four hours that morning before they both left in Avendaño's car. Another vehicle followed and was later seen leaving the area where the student's body was found.

Bautista presided over Avendaño's funeral.

At least seven students have been killed or kidnapped in Mexico City this year.
