Prigozhin complains about Russian army impeding Wagner’s withdrawal from Bakhmut

According to Prigozhin, shortly before their departure from Bakhmut, which has hotly contested since July 2022, the mercenaries noticed "suspicious activity" and found "dozens of explosive devices."

“Currently, we are not seeing any provocations towards us from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but it should be noted that surprises awaited us from the other side,” he said.

“Shortly before our departure, we detected suspicious activity on our retreat routes.”

Prigozhin stated that an investigation is already underway and pointed out that these charges were laid by troops under the command of Russia’s Defense Ministry.

"What was this? We assume that this was an attempt at public humiliation," he concluded.

He added that Wagner fighters were not harmed during the incident.

On May 25, Prigozhin ordered his mercenaries to leave Bakhmut by June 1.

On May 31, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said that while Russian forces control the city itself, the battle for control over Bakhmut continues around the settlement.
