New primary care clinic, Solvera Health, employs 13 former medical staff from Cottage

GALESBURG — The official ribbon cutting ceremony for Solvera Health’s new primary care clinic located in Galesburg will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 256 S. Soangetaha Road.

Though the clinic has already seen over 500 patients since it first opened in late July, Solvera’s CEO Phil Caplis said the ceremony marks the location’s official entry to the community with the Galesburg and Monmouth Chamber of Commerce.

As part of the ribbon cutting, people can get free coffee between 7-9 a.m. at Innkeeper’s Coffee in Galesburg and Dame Fine Coffee in Monmouth.

The 13,431 square-foot office facility’s six exam rooms, lab room and small procedure room is staffed by 17 people — 13 of which are medical staff previously employed by the now closed Cottage Hospital.

Services available at the Galesburg clinic include:

  • Primary Care / Family Care / Senior Care

  • Women's birth control

  • Urology

  • Lab Work

  • Specialty referrals

  • Physical therapy

  • Health and Medicare insurance consulting

Caplis said Solvera Health’s goal is to bring “hospitality” to healthcare by making it easier for patients, particularly older patients, to see their doctors and complete their lab work. This is accomplished, in part, by having as many services as it can in one facility or in Solvera’s other nearby clinic in Peoria.

“You don't want to make them work too hard to get their healthcare, and that's what I think has been happening,” Caplis said. “People come in, they see their primary care doctor and then all they get told is, ‘You need to go see this person and then you need to go over here and get your labs drawn then you need to go here to get an X-ray.’ What we want to do is lead that under one roof."

Depending on the public’s reception of Solvera’s new Galesburg clinic, Caplis said the company will reassess in 18 months the possibility of expanding its clinic into the former Iron Eagle Harley-Davidson building at 131 S. Soangetaha Road.

But until then, the new Solvera clinic — located just northeast of Best Western Prairie Inn — accepts all kinds of insurance and is open for walk-ins.
