Polls will be open throughout the state Tuesday, although turnout for the state primary is expected to be low without many high-profile races.

Interest will likely heighten in the runup to the general election Nov. 8.

The race for governor, to replace Charlie Baker, will come down to Attorney General Maura Healey, a Democrat, and, on the Republican side, either Geoff Diehl or Chris Doughty. Healey is uncontested in the primary.

Kate Campanale, a candidate for lieutenant governor and a former state representative from Spencer, is teaming with Doughty. Leah V. Allen has partnered with Diehl.

There are three Democrats for lieutenant governor on the primary ballot: Kimberley Driscoll, Tami Goulveia and Eric P. Lesser. Healey has not backed a lieutenant governor.

Many state Senate and House of Representative races do not include a primary.

In Central Massachusetts the focus Tuesday will be on the Democratic primary between Worcester Mayor Joseph M. Petty and Robyn K. Kennedy, a former executive at the YWCA of Central Massachusetts.

They are seeking to succeed state Sen. Harriette L. Chandler in the 1st Worcester District. Chandler is not running again. There are no Republicans on the ballot.

Tuesday, polls in Worcester and most communities will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
