Primary election petition filings start Monday

Nov. 20—Filing for the General Primary Election on March 19, 2024, will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27, and will conclude at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in Vermilion County Clerk Cathy Jenkins' office.

Jenkins and her staff remind candidates to have all paperwork notarized and bound prior to filing. If your paperwork is not notarized at the time of filing, you will be asked to step out of line to do so, and you will forfeit your desired time of filing.

The office has notaries available from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and it can notarize candidates' paperwork free of charge.

The office will be accepting filings for offices including county auditor, circuit clerk, county coroner, county recorder, state's attorney, county board members and precinct committeepersons.

Among those who have picked up petitions: Robert Mitch Weaver for precinct committeeperson; Tood Johnson for County Board District 1; Charles R. Sermersheim for County Board District 4; Mark Janesy for County Board District 7; John M.
