Primary slated for Aug. 2: New ballots, registration deadlines and early voting dates

Federal judges put the lengthy redistricting battle on pause, implementing a map in May that was declared unconstitutional by the Ohio Supreme Court.

This map will be used for the fast-approaching second primary of 2022, slated for Tuesday, Aug. 2.

Voters in Wayne, Ashland and Holmes counties will choose their state central committee members and nominate candidates for state senator and state representative before the annual Nov. 2 General Election.

As with every primary, registered Democrats or Republicans will vote for their own party representatives.

Voter registration deadline looms

Tuesday, July 5 is the last day to register to vote for the Aug. 2 primary for Wayne, Holmes and Ashland county residents.

All three board of elections offices will be open on July 5 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. to help individuals update their registration information.

Area public libraries, county courthouses, Bureau of Motor Vehicles offices and high schools also have the necessary forms to register, according to the Ashland County Board of Elections.

County residents can check their registration, find their polling location and view sample ballots on the Board of Elections website. Residents may also download the free Ohio Voter Info app to view this information.

Those who wish to vote must be a native or naturalized U.S. citizen of at least 18 years old by the 2022 General Election date of Nov. 8 and must be a resident of the county 30 days prior to an election, according to the Ashland County Board of Elections.

Absentee voting, in-person or mail early voting begins Wednesday, July 6.
