Prince Charles Is Out of Isolation After Testing Positive for the Coronavirus
Prince Charles is on the road to recovery from the novel coronavirus. Clarence House confirmed this morning that the Prince of Wales is now out of isolation and is in good health following his diagnosis last week.
“Clarence House has confirmed today that, having consulted with his doctor, The Prince of Wales is now out of self-isolation,” reads the statement.
After experiencing mild symptoms, the Prince of Wales tested positive for COVID-19 last Monday. Both he and Camilla were tested by the NHS at Birkhall, their home in Scotland on the Balmoral Estate. Camilla tested negative for the disease, and so she will remain in isolation until the end of this week, as is recommended.
Following the announcement that Prince Charles had tested positive, questions were raised about how he received a test with mild symptoms, as there is reportedly a shortage of tests in the UK.
But according to Clarence House, both Charles and Camilla “met the criteria required for testing.”
Scotland’s Chief Medical officer also issued a statement about their testing, which reads:
“Dr Catherine Calderwood, Chief Medical Officer for Scotland, has confirmed that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, were tested for Covid-19 for clinical reasons. She is very pleased to confirm that both remain in good health.”
Thus far, Prince Charles is the only member of the British royal family to publicly confirm that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
On Friday, following the news that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had also tested positive for COVID-19, Buckingham Palace shared an update about Queen Elizabeth.

“HMQ remains in good health,” reads the statement. “The Queen last saw the PM on the 11th March and is following all the appropriate advice with regards to her welfare. We will not be commenting further.” It's unclear at this point if the Queen has been tested for COVID-19.
As of March 29, 127,737 people in the UK have been tested, with 19,522 results coming back positive.
