Prince Charles Says Prince George Is Already Learning About Climate Change
Some things just run in the family. Admittedly, when it comes to the royal family, some of those things—like heading the British monarchy—are a little more dramatic than in most families; others, like a love of horseback riding, are simply born out of passionate interest. Such seems to be the case with Prince Charles's interest in the environment. A longtime advocate for protecting the planet, Charles has obviously passed his interest down to his eldest son, Prince William, who earlier this week handed out his inaugural Earthshot Prize, which champions solutions to protect the planet. And it seems that the next generation is getting involved as well.
In a new documentary titled COP26: In Your Hands Prince Charles shared that his grandson, Prince George, "is learning how climate change is causing the big storms and floods, droughts, fires and food shortages we are seeing around the world." He also explained that he has been imparting lessons on climate change to his children and grandchildren, telling them, "We have forgotten that we have to put back into nature as much as we take out—and you have an important part to play in this." He added, "Their voices matter, and so does yours. Your future depends upon the future of the planet."
This isn't the first time in recent weeks that the royals have shared stories about Prince George's budding interest in environmentalism. Last week, his father, Prince William, shared in an interview that George had been "annoyed" after an experience picking up litter with his school, only to see the litter return the next day.
