Prince Charles is sending thank you notes to individuals that supported him and his family, as they mourned the loss of Prince Philip. The Prince of Wales composed a sweet message on black-trimmed stationary, alongside a vintage photograph of him and his father. The Duke of Edinburgh passed away last month at age 99.

The Prince of Wales is using special stationery for these cards, featuring the customary black border for those in mourning. The black-trimmed stationery is traditional for grieving members of the British royal family; however, Queen Elizabeth recently chose to break with this custom. She is instead using personalized stationery featuring her crest in black, rather than red, but without the black border. Prince Charles opted for the more traditional choice.

Instagram user @lise_m_d shared the thank you card sent to her by the Prince. "The Prince of Wales thanks you so much for your very kind message of sympathy," the message read. "His Royal Highness has been enormously touched by the many generous messages that have been received in recent days; they have provided great comfort at this very sad time."

The note concluded, reading, "The Prince of Wales sends you his warmest thanks and best wishes."

Opposite the letter is a black and white photograph of a young Prince Charles with the Duke of Edinburgh. The 1958 photo showcases Prince Philip driving a motorboat during a race up the river Medina in Cowes, Isle of Wight. Prince Charles rides in the passenger seat.

According to the same Instagram user, the Earl and Countess of Wessex (Prince Edward and Sophie) are sending similar notes to mourners, expressing their thanks. "Thank you for your kind message of condolence," their note read. "We are extremely grateful for your thoughtfulness in writing at this sad time."
