Prince George’s Classmates Gave Him a Low-Key Nickname

It’s no surprise that the royal family is keen on nicknames. (There’s “Lottie” for Charlotte; “Gary” for Queen Elizabeth; “My Love” for Harry—and the list goes on.)

But those short and sweet monikers have always been more of an inner circle thing versus names assigned by the public, which is why we were delighted to hear the relatively straightforward nickname assigned to Prince George by his classmates at his school Thomas’s Battersea.

It’s P.G.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, a parent spilled the beans on the young royal’s reputation. “George is really happy at school, [and] his nickname is P.G. He’s very popular and has lots of friends, and there’s very little fuss made about who he is.”

There are a couple of reasons this nickname makes so much sense. For one, it’s way easier to call after P.G. on the playground than it is to say Prince George. We’re also relieved to hear that he doesn’t have to go by something more regal in the classroom—say, Prince George of Cambridge or Prince George Alexander Louis. (Reminder, his full name is long.)

It seems like P.G.’s parents, Prince William (Wills) and Kate (Cath), really are making every effort to give him as normal a childhood as possible.
