Prince George Got So Upset by This Documentary Prince William Had to Turn It Off

Prince William just shared the most relatable story about Prince George yet, and frankly, we feel the same way.

Here's what happened: Prince George, like the rest of his family, is a huge fan of British natural historian Sir David Attenborough—so much so that Attenborough is the young royal's favorite celebrity. They've met on multiple occasions, and the prince has even appeared in a short PSA video, asking a question about extinction. (Attenborough's answer, actually, was pretty upbeat: If we work together at conservation efforts, no species need go extinct again.) But like many of us, Prince George doesn't really like to dwell too long on the topic.

Speaking with Sky News on October 8, Prince William revealed that while watching Attenborough's latest special on BBC One, Extinction: The Facts, Prince George was so upset that he couldn't finish the film. “So, having watched so many David Attenborough documentaries recently with my children, they absolutely love them,” the Duke of Cambridge said. “The most recent one—the extinction one, actually—George and I had to turn it off, we got so sad about it halfway through.” 

According to Prince William, his eldest son said, “You know, I don't want to watch this anymore.” We can't blame him for wanting a break from heavy current events. We get tired of it, and we're a lot older than seven.

Prince William gave the interview to promote his own climate initiative, the Earthshot Prize, aimed at spotlighting, rewarding, and funding innovative scientific solutions to our environmental woes. He told the publication that his love and concern for his children are part of what drives him to focus on this issue. 

“Why has it come to this and you know [Prince George] seven years old and he's asking me these questions already, he really feels it, and I think every seven-year-old out there can relate to that,” the duke said. “So I really feel from an emotional point of view as well, I think every parent, everyone wants to do the best for their children, and I think we have to have a decade of change, a decade of repairing the planet so that we can hand it on to the next generation and future generations and sustain the prosperity for their lives too.”

Prince William has been talking a lot about his kids lately. In his new ITV documentary, Prince William: A Planet for Us All, the duke shared a much more lighthearted fact about Princess Charlotte: She can do the floss dance—and so can her mom, Kate Middleton. 

“Catherine can floss, but I can’t,” he said, per People. “It’s…it’s like a really horrible film to watch me floss.”

Now, that we'd love to see in a documentary.
