Prince Harry was spotted leaving Balmoral following his grandmother the Queen’s passing on September 8, but he reportedly won’t be heading home to California anytime soon. Royal reporter and author Omid Scobie tweeted, “After spending the night at Balmoral, Prince Harry has left this morning to make his way back to Windsor. He will, of course, remain in the UK during this time.” He also noted that King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will travel to London later today, where King Charles is expected to make a speech.

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle were scheduled to attend an event in England on Thursday but canceled their plans once they learned that Her Majesty had been placed under medical supervision. Harry immediately flew to Balmoral to join his family, while Meghan stayed in England. (Note: Kate Middleton also stayed behind in England, while Prince William flew to Balmoral.)

Meghan and Harry acknowledged the Queen’s passing by changing their website to say, “In loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926–2022.”

King Charles also released a statement about his mother’s death, saying, “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.”
