Saturday Night Live came this close (holds up fingers) to having a member of the royal family host a few months back, but plans got changed at the last minute. According to multiple sources who spoke to Page Six, Prince Harry was in talks to host SNL in 2022, but the outlet reports that said “talks stalled at the eleventh hour.”

“I know that Harry was all in, he was really serious about doing it—and it would have been great fun as promo for the book,” a source explained. “SNL producers have been after Harry for a while. Everyone on the show was really into the idea, and people would definitely have tuned in.”

Another source confirmed this, saying, “There’s always lots of names in the mix, but Harry was definitely a name being discussed.”

So, what went wrong? Unclear, but Page Six noted that Harry did end up doing several televised appearances to promote his book, including 60 Minutes (where he was interviewed by Anderson Cooper) and The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. And while The Late Show definitely had some funny moments, both interviews were pretty serious, so maybe SNL didn’t fit the vibe given some of the book’s more sensitive subjects? Whomst knows!

Either way, apparently Lorne Michaels still wants Harry on the show, and a source said, “I could also see Harry coming on as a surprise in a sketch.” Hopefully one that revolves around his frozen “todger,” a story that has been haunting me for…well, weeks, honestly.
